Notarial Services during Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

The Australian High Commission continue to offer notarial services during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. 

 

Visiting our offices during COVID-19

In line with the current social distancing requirements, please note that only one person at a time will be allowed access into the High Commission until further notice

  • You must have an appointment to visit our offices.
  • If you have a fever, cough or any COVID-19 symptoms, please reschedule your appointment.  Please do not attend our offices if you are ill or if you have had recent exposure to someone who is ill.
  • Please do not bring friends or family members to your appointment.  
  • Please arrive as close to your appointment time as possible.  Security arrangements at some locations do not allow you to enter the building prior to your appointment time. 
  • You must bring and wear a mask.  We will ask you to remove your mask briefly to confirm your identity.
  • You may be asked to wash or sanitise your hands before commencing your interview.
  • Please ensure that you have all instructions and documents ready when you arrive for your notarial services appointment. 

 

What are notarial services?

Notarial services include services such as authenticating a document, certifying a copy of a document, witnessing a signature on a document or issuing a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage.

By providing a notarial service, the Australian government is not endorsing, verify or making any statement as to the accuracy, truth, legality or otherwise of the contents of the document or the purposes for which the document may be used. 

Please ensure that documents relating to the notarial services you require from the Australian High Commission are presented in the correct form and that you provide the correct instructions for the notarial service you require. If you are unsure of the legislative requirements relating to the notarial service you require, you should seek independent legal advice. Please note that neither the Australian Government nor the Australian High Commission guarantees the legal effectiveness of the notarised document or the accuracy of its content. Fees paid for notarial services are non-refundable.

How much are notarial services?

The High Commission in governed by the Consular Fees Act 1955 and the fees charged are stipulated therein.  Fees are payable at the time of appointment using a credit or debit card, Diner’s Club or American Express cards are not accepted.  All payments are made in South African Rand only.  Fees are reviewed monthly to reflect exchange rate variations.  Current notarial fees can be accessed using the below link. Please note that there is no parking available on the grounds of the High Commission.  There have been instances of cars being stolen in the Arcadia area where the High Commission is located. All visitors should carefully plan their visit to the High Commission and exercise vigilance.

 

Notarial services are only offered at the Australian High Commission in Pretoria and are strictly by appointment only. When making use of the Gautrain the Hatfield Station is the closest to the High Commission.

Honorary Consuls cannot perform any notarial services, however in some circumstances they may undertake preliminary activities to assist. Please contact your Honorary Consul or the High Commission for advice on notarial services.

 

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) uses third-party software (Setmore) to manage the High Commission's appointments. Your personal information (including your name and contact details) will be collected by DFAT via Setmore to book your appointment and for related purposes. By proceeding with this booking, you are consenting to the collection of this information by Setmore on DFAT’s behalf for these purposes. If this information is not collected, DFAT’s ability to arrange your appointment will be limited.
